Papp?!

When I saw at the first time this word, immediately came the thought in my mind: why is it written here my class teacher’s name?! Actually it is his family name. And to be honest he is not Scandinavian. This word exists also in the Hungarian language, just we usually use it with one ‘p’ like “pap”, and it means priest (in English).

I’ve started to be curious, so I translated in more languages. The Swedish people use the papp word also with the same meening. Danish people seems not… but what is really interesting that in Finnish the priest is “pappi”. I heard many times that we are connected but I didn’t think it is visible, and now here it is! “Pappi” and “pap(p)”‘ are quite similar.

But. I made a bit research and these two words don’t prove anything. Unfortunately. Both nations obtained it from the Slavs. That’s it. Anyway, the following picture is not about the relationship between my class teacher and me, rather about my anger of this scientific misunderstanding!
